Life Deeds, Inc. Announces Leadership Transition
Life Deeds, Inc. Board of Directors formally announces that Allieu Kamara has stepped down as Executive Director, effective immediately. This decision was made mutually in the best interests of both parties. We thank Allieu for his contributions during his tenure and wish him the best in his future endeavors.
In the interim, Roger Bell will assume the role of Acting Executive Director. We are confident that under his leadership, Life Deeds will continue to fulfill its mission and support the invaluable programs and communities we serve.
We remain committed to our work and will continue to focus on making a positive impact in the lives of those we serve.
Housing Services
Life Deeds has been a housing provider throughout the District and Maryland. Since 2012, when we launched an independent living program for youth and young adults to bridge the gap between workforce and quality housing. What we quickly discovered was that housing alone was not enough to help move the needle of progress for the participants. It was then that we designed a holistic initiative that includes congregate care and independent housing. Our goals were simple, provide high-end housing facilities, coupled with excellent programming and a plethora of living options upon the participants exit.
Community Based Services
Life Deeds connects youth and families with several important community supports, each unique to their needs and availability of local resources. So, what do we mean when we say “Community-Based?” We are strengthening the connection between youth, their families, and their local community resources. Specifically, resources they can access even after we’ve stopped providing services. Resources can be natural or formal support, such as counseling services, recreational experiences, housing support and healthcare. These are provided by local organizations or led by individual leaders in the community.
Changing Lives With Good Deeds
Doing Good is a simple and universal vision. A vision to which each and every one of us can connect and contribute to its realization. A vision based on the belief that by doing good deeds, positive thinking and affirmative choice of words, feelings and actions, we can enhance goodness in the world.
Families First DC
Families First DC (FFDC) is a neighborhood-based, whole family approach for vulnerable families who live in the District of Columbia. FFDC is designed to disrupt the way services are delivered in ten neighborhoods where barriers to well-being, economic opportunity, and achievement are most acute.
The Credible Messenger
The Credible Messenger Initiative is a programming initiative connecting community members who share similar lived experiences with the youth and families served by DYRS. Credible Messengers are neighborhood leaders, experienced youth advocates and individuals with relevant life experiences.
Violence Intervention Programs
The Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement (ONSE) supports Life Deeds in the provision of Floating Violence Intervention (FVI) services within the District of Columbia, targeting at-risk individuals who are intensely involved in community conflicts in all 24 of ONSE’s priority communities.
